Removable Partial Denture
Abstract in English
This study aimed to evaluate by the photoelastic technique, the effect that the partial denture would have to reduce tensions on the roots of teeth. For this reason, was prepared a model with three types of removable partial dentures designs, simulating rehabilitations in large ressections of maxilla. All models presents guide-planes on central incisor and second molar, and was differentiated as follows: Model 01, simple circumferential clasp in canine, twin clasps between first and second premolar and twin clasps between first and second molar; model 02, we use the same clasps as model 01 only including a palatal covering in this model, model 03, twin clasps between canine and first premolar, twin clasps between second premolar and first molar and simple circumferential clasp at mesial of second molar. Were applied vertical loads of 10 kg, 15 kg and 20 kg in canine, second premolar and first molar. The results showed that: The guide-planes proved its effectiveness through full contact in the teeth prepared for their settlement. The palatal covering failed to alleviate the stress on the roots of teeth. Twins clasps, placed in a more anterior position, indicating a better distribution of stresses. Simple circunferencial clasp, placed in a more posterior position indicating a better distribution of stresses. Models 01 and 02 had higher tensions in central incisor compared with the model 03. The Model 03 was the best considering equilibrated load distribution showing stress of lesser magnitude. The best models of removable partial dentures, from the perspective of stress transfer were first model 03, followed by the model 01 and then finally the model 02. The change os design of RPD changed the distributions os tensions in teeth of evaluated models.
