Title in English
Microscopic and morphometric study of the effect of antiresorptive substances used as root canal dressing in avulsed rats' teeth submitted to late reimplantation.
Abstract in English
The therapy of avulsed teeth submitted to late reimplantation comprises root surface treatment and root canal treatment, with a view to limit the process of root resorption and promote repair of the avulsed tooth. Even when these procedures are followed, failures still occur. The utilization of substances to inhibit the resorption may be an alternative to solve these cases. Therefore, this study aimed at testing root canal dressings containing anti-resorptive substances in teeth submitted to late reimplantation. For that purpose, 60 right maxillary central incisors of rats were used, which were avulsed and kept in dry environment for thirty minutes. All teeth had their root canals instrumented, and the root surface was treated with 1% sodium hypochlorite followed by 2% sodium fluoride. Thereafter, the teeth were divided into four groups according to the root canal dressing: group I, alendronate solution; group II, acetazolamide solution; group III, gallium nitrate solution; and group IV, calcium hydroxide paste. All teeth were then reimplanted in their respective sockets. At 15, 30 and 60 days after reimplantation, the animals were killed and the specimens achieved were processed in laboratory for microscopic and morphometric analysis. The results demonstrated that the alendronate and gallium nitrate solutions and the calcium hydroxide paste limited the root resorption, yet did not impair its occurrence. However, with utilization of the acetazolamide solution, the root resorption was absent at 60 days, demonstrating its efficacy for inhibition of root resorption.
