O presente estudo tem como objeto a brincadeira do boi-de-mamao, manifestacao popular do litoral de santa catarina. Nossa investigacao pretendeu perceber na brincadeira a linguagem do teatro de bonecos, destacando para o estudo elementos que integram a teatralidade. Atraves da analise dos dados colhidos junto aos grupos de boi, analisamos o texto, musica, indumentaria, bonecos e seus processos de confeccao e manipulacao, o espaco e a relacao que se estabelece com o publico. Isso nos possibilitou compreender a brincadeira como uma manifestacao dramatica nao erudita. Para a realizacao do estudo, acompanhamos diversos grupos, observando o contexto onde se da a manifestacao, a maneira como ela acontece, alem de buscar compreender o universo socio-cultural dos homens que a praticam. A apresentacao do boi reune cerca de 30 homens que narram cantando, dancando e representando, com bonecos e mascaras, a morte e ressurreicao do boi. Tradicionalmente, os grupos de boi eram vistos nos meses de dezembro, janeiro e fevereiro, no periodo que compreende o natal e vai ate o carnaval. Atualmente podem ser vistos, durante todo o ano, mantendo a caracteristica de aglutinar muitas pessoas para ver e se divertir com a apresentacao

The present study concems the "Boi-do-Mamão", a popular festival on the Santa Catarina coastline. The aim of the investigation was to perceive the language of "teatro de bonecos" (puppet theatre) in the festival, stressing the elements which constitute theatrality. Through the data collected with the "Boi" groups, I analysed the text, interpretation, music, "bonecos"' costumes and their manufacture and manipulation processes, as well as the space and the relationship established with the audience. This helped me to understand the festival as a non-erudite dramatic manifestation. To carry out this study I followed various groups, observing the context in which the festival takes place and the way it takes place, besides attempting to imderstand the socio-cultural miiverse of men who practice it. The "Boi" presentation brings together around 30 men who narrate by singing, and performaing, with "bonecos" and masks, the death and ressurection of the "Boi". Traditionally the "Boi" groups were seen in December, January and February, in the period between Christmas and Camival. Today they can be seen all year round, and many people continue to gather to see and enjoy the presentation.
