A pesquisa compreende o estudo da trajetória do jornalista Zuenir Ventura, com ênfase no período da ditadura militar. O estudo buscou mapear as origens sociais, formação, relações de amizade, trabalhos na imprensa, reconhecimentos da comunidade jornalística e inserção em grupos de sociabilidade intelectual no Rio de Janeiro. A questão central deste trabalho corresponde aos esforços de Zuenir na interpretação da vida cultura brasileira, em diagnósticos e panoramas que se interligassem com a conjuntura política. As ideias, frentes de atuação e balanços propostos caminharam por quatro questões que se relacionam: processo de construção de brasilidade, associação aos valores do nacional-popular, identidade de oposição ao regime militar e o papel do intelectual nos movimentos de mediação. O percurso de Zuenir, que começou no jornalismo na segunda metade da década de 1950 e exerceu paralelamente a profissão de professor, acompanhou parte do processo de modernização da imprensa carioca, as mudanças no perfil dos jornalistas e o quadro de concentração das empresas jornalísticas na cidade.

This research comprises the study of the trajectory of the journalist Zuenir Ventura, with emphasis on the period of the dictatorship. The study sought to map the social origins, formation, friendship relations, works in the press, recognitions of the journalistic community and insertion in groups of intellectual sociability in Rio de Janeiro. The central question of this work corresponds to the efforts of Zuenir in the interpretation of the brazilian culture, in diagnoses and panoramas that were connected with the political conjuncture. The ideas and lines of action were guided by four questions related to each other: the process of constructing a brazilian identity, the association of national-popular values, opposition to the military regime and the role of the intellectual in mediation movements. Zuenir's trajectory, which began in journalism in the second half of the 1950s and practiced in parallel with the teaching profession, accompanied part of the process of modernization of the Rio press, changes in the profile of journalists and the concentration of journalistic enterprises in the city.
