Abstract in English
The present doctoral thesis proposes the investigation of the non-formal teaching-learning processes presented by Leila Farah (1923-2004), Hermínia Russo (1903-2002) and Isabel Maresca (1941-2019), by the descriptions given by their students. The relevance of the subject lies on the following purposes: (a) the germinal institutionalization of the teaching of singing in Brazil (FÉLIX, 1997); (b) the conflicting essays about the various aesthetical schools also related to the teaching of lyrical singing (MILLER, 1997); (c) the strength of tradition and orality on the teaching of lyrical singing detached from literature production about the topic (PONTES JÚNIOR, 2015); (d) the lack of documentation regarding these teaching-learning processes developed in Brazil (PESSOTTI, 2017; SANTOS, 2011); (e) the retrieval of the memory and methodology of remarkable personas of the musical field in São Paulo-SP (BINDER; CASTAGNA, 1998). Therefore, this work intends to analyze narratives about the aforesaid schools, as well survey new documental resources about the topic. It also intends to progress in the literature regarding lyrical singing in São Paulo. As theory basis, methodological tools of the oral history about this theme is retrieved, in accordance with Meihy studies (2005). Furthermore the current study relies on the proposals of critical musicology to understand the relation of the musical phenomena with social aspects of the historical moment studied, as proposed by Beard and Gloag (2005), Abbate (1993) and Kerman (1985). The corpus of this work is composed by interviews with six singing students, as well as documents, as pictures, notes, recordings etc. Therefore, this research retrievals material yet not registered in the history of singing in Brazil and its respective literature, once the singing teaching in the country, by the formal perspective, is recent, according to the work of Félix (1997), Leeuwen (2009) and Mariz (2013). Under the conditions of this research, one can conclude that there is a non-formal teaching-learning field of lyrical singing in the city of São Paulo. This field is characterised by oral transmission and by its female or male responsible teachers.
