Abstract in English
This doctoral thesis aimed to study dobrado music; instrumental musical genre typical of wind bands in brazilian music. The objective to be achieved, through collections, scores, texts, and documents, would be to show what this musical genre that became so popular would be and how it is currently characterized. The methodology was qualitative with documentary research; The scores used to analyse and illustrate specific aspects of genre were selected from digital collections and mainly from the physical collection of the extinct Corporação Musical Liberdade, São Roque City SP. The documents handled that allude to the term, in addition to analysis of scores, demonstrated that dobrado music developed parallel to formation and consolidation of wind bands in Brazil; resulting from compositional forms of classicism and with tempo based on the cadences of military regulations of the 18th and 19th centuries (double march/quick march), its main character, the wind band, especially with black people and people of mixed race, was responsible for giving this genre characteristics that define it: Brazilian march music, inducing movement and predominantly designed with elements of Brazilian culture: syncopations, setbacks, anacruses, displaced accentuation and the inexplicable feeling of impulse to dance.
