O objetivo desta dissertação é investigar as transformações na imagem e na reputação de J.K. Rowling, autora da saga de livros Harry Potter, perante um público específico os potterheads brasileiros tendo em consideração o processo de cancelamento no qual Rowling se encontra inserida desde 2019, após uma série de declarações supostamente transfóbicas. Além disso, busca também fomentar o arcabouço teórico de um fenômeno ainda pouco explorado cientificamente - a cultura do cancelamento. Sendo assim, primeiramente, realiza um resgate histórico acerca de termos e manifestações do passado, que podem ser associados ao cancelamento da contemporaneidade, identificando nuances, semelhanças e discrepâncias. Em seguida, se debruça sob conceitos da área de comunicação que permeiam a essência da cultura do cancelamento e do cenário no qual se encontra Rowling, sendo esses: opinião pública, celebridade, reputação, dicotomia público-privado e crise de imagem. Investiga, também, os estudos de fãs, desde seu surgimento até as pesquisas mais recentes e, enfim, introduz a saga Harry Potter e as trajetórias pessoal e profissional de J.K. Rowling, destacando o conflito que protagoniza há quase quatro anos. Para alcançar o objetivo prioritário da pesquisa, assim como os específicos, foi utilizada a abordagem antropossemiótica, que une o método etnográfico digital da Antropologia com o viés interpretativista da semiótica peirceana. Assim, foi selecionada a comunidade digital de fãs Harry Potter Brasil, na plataforma Facebook, para coleta do corpus da pesquisa, resultando na análise qualitativa de cinco publicações e cerca de 1.500 comentários, postados entre o período de julho de 2022 a julho de 2023. Os principais resultados apontam para uma associação espontânea entre J.K. Rowling e a temática da transfobia, indicando um prejuízo significativo para seus capitais social e simbólico.

The objective of this dissertation is to investigate the transformations in the image and reputation of J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter book saga, before a specific audience - the Brazilian potterheads - taking into account the cancellation process in which Rowling has been inserted since 2019, after a series of allegedly transphobic statements. In addition, it also seeks to foster the theoretical framework of a phenomenon that is still little explored scientifically - the cancellation culture. Therefore, firstly, it performs a historical rescue about terms and manifestations of the past, which can be associated with the cancellation of contemporaneity, identifying nuances, similarities, discrepancies. It then focuses on concepts from the communication area that permeate the essence of cancel culture and the scenario in which Rowling finds herself, namely: public opinion, celebrity, reputation, public-private dichotomy and image crisis. It also investigates fan studies, from its inception to the most recent research and, finally, introduces the Harry Potter saga and J.K. Rowling's personal and professional trajectories, highlighting the conflict that shes been situated for almost four years. In order to achieve the main objective of the research, as well as the specific ones, the anthroposemiotic approach was used, which combines the digital ethnography method of Anthropology with the interpretive bias of Peirce's semiotics. Thus, the digital community of fans 'Harry Potter Brasil', on the Facebook platform, was selected to collect the research corpus, resulting in the qualitative analysis of five publications and about 1,500 comments, posted between the period of july 2022 to july 2023. The main results point to a spontaneous association between J.K. Rowling and the transphobia subject, indicating a significant damage to her social and symbolic capitals.
