Cilindros de motores de combustão interna

Abstract in English
The objective of this work was the building of an equipment as well as the elaboration of an experimental methodology for a comparative characterization of the air swirling flow and the pressure loss within Cylinders of Internal Combustion Engines, aiming at the developing of products in the Experimental Engineering Department of an engine manufacturing company. In order to facilitate future experimental developing of products, the option took for the comparative characterization methodology of the air swirling flow was one that could be operated by means of paddle wheel anemometer in a stationary flow equipment. For the implementation of this methodology, the following taskas were demanded: projecting and building of the equipment, based on the basic information available in the literature, research on the variables of influence on the measuring process, evaluation of secondary aspects of the building of the equipment that interfere with the results, developing of specific experimental methods of measuring that meet the needs of the company and the elaboration of a statistic analysis suited to the experimental data achieved. The statistic analysis of the results of the several tests performed revealed that the equipment built and the experimental method here employed are sensitive enough to do comparative measurements with reasonable precision, even when small diferences and geometric variations may occur, enabling the optimization of the product and its quality control.
