Os acoplamentos cinemáticos de três ranhuras e de Kelvin são projetos eficientes e econômicos para o posicionamento de precisão dos sistemas mecânicos. Em particular, o do tipo três ranhuras tem sido usado como mesa porta-peças em máquina-ferramenta. Entretanto, seu uso tem sido limitado devido ao alto custo de produção das ranhuras e o rápido desgaste dos contatos. Neste trabalho, um acoplamento de três ranhuras foi construído simplesmente usando roletes e esferas de rolamento comerciais nos pontos críticos de contato. Deste modo, este tipo de acoplamento pode ser feito econômica e rapidamente e substituído quando gasto. Embora a rigidez e a capacidade de carga sejam muito menores do que as obtidas pelo uso de esferas e ranhuras de arco-gótico, e suficiente para a maioria das operações de acabamento de alta precisão, como retificação, brunimento, lapidação, etc.

He three-groove and Kelvin kinematic couplings are eficiente and economical devices for the accurate location of mechanical systems. In particular, the three-groove type has been used for holding work pieces in machine tool. However, their use has been limited due to the high cost of machining the grooves and the rapid wear of the contacts. In this work, a three-groove is constructed simply by using ordinary ant-friction bearing rollers and balls for the critical contacts. In this way, this type of coupling can be made cheaply and quickly and replaceable when worn. Even though the rigidity and load capacity are much lower than obtainable by using balls and gothic-arc grooves, it is suficiente for most high precision, finishing operations such as gunding honing, lapping, etc.
