Keywords in Portuguese
Engenharia de minas
Rochas ornamentais

Abstract in English
This study analyses the abrasive waterjet cutting process performance when applied on dimensional stones. It is described the various fluid jets in use today, the principles of the abrasive waterjet machining and the surface finishing. Also, it was discussed some environmental aspects. The process performance was tested in one marble and three granites. The resulting cut geometry, smooth depth of cut, rough depth of cut and surface finishing are presented and discussed in terms of "polished" surface. SEM images was obtained from waterjet cutting surface, to compare it with other surfaces cut by differente ways and polished in differente degrees. A discussion about theoretically estimated values and those experimentally obtained was also made in this paper. The main conclusion of this contribution is that the performance of the equipment, when applied to the cut of brazilian dimension rock slabs, is excellent, allowing to obtain the most complex design features with high precision and reproducibility.
