O fósforo se constitui num importante elo de ligação entre a mineração, a indústria de fertilizantes, a indústria de fosfatos especiais, a agricultura e a indústria de alimentos. A análise do comportamento dos processos químicos e físico-químicos sob a influência dos minerais associados as apatitas, através da compilação de dados originados da pesquisa e experiência industrial, foi o principal objetivo deste trabalho, visando delinear um cenário, ainda que sucinto, sobre as relações de causa e efeito das interferências causadas pelas impurezas existentes nos minérios e concentrados fosfáticos. Entre aqueles que mais apresentam interferências, destacam-se os minerais portadores de ferro, de alumínio e de magnésio, em razão destes elementos formarem uma vasta gama de sais complexos de fósforo, durante a fase de industrialização, como também no solo, após a aplicação dos fertilizantes. As decisões tomadas durante o processo de lavra dos minérios fosfáticos acabam por apresentar desdobramentos expressivos sobre o beneficiamento mineral, solubilização de concentrados fosfáticos, qualidade dos fertilizantes e rendimentos dos processos industriais, em face da preseça de minerais contaminantes, que influenciam de forma negativa na maioria dos casos. Assim, necessário se torna que as operações de processamento de fósforo sejam conduzidas dentro de uma ótica integrada.

Phosphorus is an importante link between mining, fertilizer industry, special phosphates industry, agriculture and food industry. The analysis of chemical and physico-chemical processes behavior, under the influence of minerals associated to apatites, based on data from research and industrial experience, was the main objective of this study, intended to sketch a concise scenery about cause and effect relationships of interferences promoted by impurities from phosphatic ores and phospate rocks. The most important contaminants are iron, aluminum and magnesium minerals, once these elements originate a large range of phosphorus complex salts in the manufacture stage, and also in the soil, after fertilizers applications. The decisions made in phosphatic ore mining stage have significant influence over mineral dressing, manufacture and fertilizers quality, and industrial processes yields because the contaminating minerals, in mosts cases, have deleterious influence. Therefore, it is imperative that phosphorus processing operations must be performed under an integrated point of view, since mining till final products, to improve the utilization indexes of phosphates, mineral resource not renewable and without substitute.
