Title in Portuguese
Usos industriais da atapulgita de Guadalupe (PI)
Keywords in Portuguese
Fluidos de perfuração
Óleos vegetais

Abstract in English
This paper presents the results of laboratory testwork performed by the CETEM-Centro de Tecnologia Mineral. This work aimed to develope an industrial process for the attapulgite clay Guadalupe-PI, to be used as off-shore well drilling fluid and decolorizing agente of mineral and vegetable oils. Only the São Pedro and Grotão do Angico samples have shown promising results for oil well drilling fluid. In this case it was obtainedthe minimum limito f apparent viscosity demanded by the oil drilling industry (15 cP). All the four samples studied in this work reached the industrial standard required for decolorizing mineral oil (ASTM color 4.5). The samples also have shown promizzing results as vegetable oil decolorizing but only the Boa Vista sample coulkd be compared in terms of performance to the standard clay (Tonsil and Taubaté). Boa Vista clay was also tested in the industrial scale as cotton oil decolorizing with promising results.
