O presente trabalho objetiva trazer subsídios à real possibilidade de implantação de um novo pólo de fertilizantes no Nordeste do Brasil. Este novo pólo tem como sua principal característica a viabilidade de utilização de matérias-primas regionais (à exceção do enxofre), contribuindo também para evitar o uso de moedas fortes na aquisição de fertilizantes necessários à expansão da agricultura regional. Inicialmente são feitos alguns comentários abrangendo os três maiores nutrientes (nitrogênio, fósforo e potássio). A seguir, são sinteticamente abordadas as produções e o comércio de fertilizantes no mundo, no Brasil e no Nordeste do Brasil, mostrando, no último caso, a carência de fosfatados e a importância deprodução autóctone, principalmente levando-se em conta os diversos projetos agrícolas previstos, tanto em programas de governo, quanto em investimentos privados. São posteriormente discutidas, em capítulos especialmente dedicados a tais apreciações, as possíveis fontes regionais de matérias-primas, bem como a formatação e localização do pólo previsto, em função das condições de mercado vigentes na Região. Complementando os estudos realizados, são feitas análises econômico-financeiras do projeto aqui delineado, permitindo a definição de sua viabilidade, aliada à oportunidade do investimento e ao largo alcance social advindo de sua implantação. Como parte final estão incluídas considerações sobre os diversos impactos oriundos da implantação donovo pólo de fertilizantes, além de conclusões sobre o tema abordado na Tese.

The goal of the present work is to subsidize a real possibility of implementing in the Brazilian Northeast a fertilizers production pole. Its main characteristic is to become viable the use of regional raw materials (except sulfur) and, also contributing to avoid the expenditure of hard currency in the acquisition of the needed fertilizers to improve the regional agriculture. The paper begins with some considerations including the three larger nutrients as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In a resumed form is approached the production and trade of fertilizers in the world, in Brazil, as well as in the Northeast of Brazil, showing, in the last case, the deficiency of phosphate products and the importance of autochthonous production, mainly taking into account the several foreseen agricultural projects, so much in government's program as in private investments. Later on are focused in chapters especially dedicated, the sources of possible raw materials, the location and types of industrial units of the foreseen pole, contingent to the effective market's conditions of the Region. Complementing the accomplished studies, economic-financial analysis of the project are made showing the definition of its viability, the investment opportunity and the social importance that will certainly appears after materialization. As final part are included considerations on the several impacts originating from the construction of the newpole of fertilizers, besidesconclusions on the theme approached in the Thesis.
