O envelhecimento da população é um fenômeno global que implica importantes mudanças na demanda de produtos e serviços. O sistema de transporte, em especial o sistema de transporte urbano, indispensável para a mobilidade e a saúde do idoso, foi apontado como uns dos serviços que serão mais afetados pela mudança demográfica. Particularmente, nos países em desenvolvimento, esse problema é agravado pelo contexto em que o sistema funciona e pelo aceleramento do processo do envelhecimento da população. Consequentemente, medidas para garantir a mobilidade do idoso são urgentes. Dessa forma, projetar um sistema de transporte acessível que garanta uma boa experiência é essencial. No entanto, problemas relacionados ao design do sistema de transporte e à prestação do serviço prejudicam a provisão de um ambiente adaptado às capacidades e necessidades dos idosos e terminam por excluí-los. Portanto, existe a necessidade de entender quais são os fatores-chave na experiência de uso do idoso para fornecer um melhor serviço, incluir o idoso, garantir qualidade de vida e a mobilidade contínua. Logo, esta pesquisa busca investigar a experiência dos idosos no uso do sistema de ônibus urbano, identificar e discutir as determinantes e facilitadores que eles enfrentam e contribuir para a melhoria do design dos sistemas de ônibus em termos de usabilidade, acessibilidade, confortabilidade e segurança. Para atingir o objetivo, foi empregada uma abordagem ergonômica e do Design Inclusivo para conduzir uma pesquisa qualitativa exploratória; um estudo de caso foi utilizado numa cidade no mundo em desenvolvimento. Os resultados mostram como as características do design do serviço afetam a experiência da viagem do idoso.

Population aging is a global phenomenon that implies essential changes in the demand for products and services. The transport system, especially the urban transport system, essential for the mobility and health of the elderly, was identified as one of the services that will be most affected by demographic change. Particularly in developing countries, this problem is exacerbated by the context in which the system works and by the accelerating process of population aging. Consequently, measures to ensure the mobility of the elderly are urgent. Designing an accessible transport system that guarantees a good experience is essential in this context. However, problems related to the design of the transport system and the provision of the service, hamper the provision of an environment adapted to the abilities and needs of the elderly and end up excluding them. Therefore, there is a need to understand the key factors in the user experience of the elderly to provide a better service, including the elderly, and guarantee the quality of life and continuous mobility. Therefore, this research seeks to investigate the experience of the elderly in the use of the urban bus system, identify and discuss the determinants and facilitators they face and contribute to improving the design of bus systems in terms of usability, accessibility, comfortability, and safety. To achieve the objective, an inclusive design approach was employed to conduct exploratory qualitative research; a case study was used in a city in the developing world. The results show how service design features affect the travel experience of the elderly.
