Abstract in English
The Cana Brava Mine, located in the central-northern part of the State of Goiás, Brazil, is the only responsible for the Brazilian production of chrysotile. Exploration and development data available for this mine constitute a valuable database, which was used to improve the knowledge about technological characteristics of the ore and for ore control. Geostatistical techniques of estimation and stochastic simulation were applied for this database. Estimation methods have included ordinary and collocated cokriging, ordinary kriging and inverse of weighting distance. Stochastic simulation methods considered sequential gaussian and turning bands. All results indicated a high correlation between the estimation methods, because this mine presents a high sampling density and, moreover, the data are all isotopic, i.e., primary and secondary data are sampled at the same locations. Besides, tests with simulated heterotopic databases showed poorer results as long as the primary and secondary coincidental data decreased. Data coming from blasting polygons also showed a good correlation with estimated blocks. They confirm that the exploration data are correctly sampled and the blasting polygons are adequate for ore control. Unfortunately, there is no standard geostatistical solution, but these mine estimation methods, including kriging and cokriging revealed to be superior than stochastic simulation methods. Estimation methods for ore reserve evaluation with a reliable uncertainty measure provide better results than stochastic simulation, even considering the associated dispersion around the average realizations provided by stochastic simulation. Finally, this work reinforced the importance of knowing geostatistical methodology for a correct application and, therefore, for obtaining consistent results.
