Abstract in English
In an area of about 700 km2 located in the northeast of Paraíba State and having as main point the town of Dona Inês, geologic/structural mapping, a gravimetric survey and radiometric dating using the Rb/Sr method in whole rock and Sm/Nd model ages werw undertaken in order to study and to understand the geology of this portion of terrain, the emplacement of the Dona Inês granitoid and its relationship with the enclosing rocks and the deformation acting the time of the intrusion. The studied area was first mapped in 1974 by DNPM/CPRM in the Eastern Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte Project, at the 1:250.000 scale, and was the theme of Masters dissertation on petrology and geochronology, developed by McMurry (1982). The present work has a structural emphasis and attempts to understand the relationships between intrusion and enclosing rocks as well the intrusion control by existing shear zones, aimimg toward the development of a model for the ascent and emplacement of Dona Inês pluton. The tools used to attain this goal were: geologic/structural mapping, in at the 1:100.000, gravimetry and geochronology. The mapped area is mainly comprised by Precambrian rocks of varied ages (paleoproterozoic and neoproterozoic) separated into three litologic units according to petrographic and structural criteria, located in the structural domain of the São José de Campestre-Caldas Brandão Massive. The oldest unit is here referred to as the gneissic-migmatite complex, mainly constituted by high grade tonalitic and granodioritic orthogneisses. The second unit is a metassedimentary sequence that lies in tectonic contact with the basement. It is made up of biotite-gneisses and micaschists. Their mineralogy attests a high metamorphic sgrade. Evidence of migmatization is visible in the biotite-gneiss. The third mapped unit is constituted by granitoids intruded in the two other units. They are the Araras syenogranite augen gneiss, the Belém quartz-monzonite and tonalite and the Dona Inês granitoid. Flat-lying fanerozoic arenaceous covers constitute the most recent litologic unit in the stratigraphy of the area. Apart the fanerozoic sedimentary package, the remaining units have passed through a complex tectonometamorphic activity. Three deformation/metamorphism phases were defined. The oldest one, here named Dn/Mn, is restricted to the gneissic-migmatite complex. It is characterized by a transposed gneissic banding. The effects of the associated metamorphism were obliterated by the subsequent events, however preserved migmatization features record upper amphibolite facies. The second phase, Dn+1/Mn+1, also affected the metassedimentary sequence. Its main characteristics are low-angle foliations and tight to isoclinal recumbent folds. The metamorphism has recorded several associations of the amphibolite facies with the presence of garnet, andaluzite and staurolite in the schists. Rb/Sr dating in whole rock in migmatized types of gneiss-migmatite complex has resulted in an age of 1,884 '+ ou -' 52 Ma for the metamorphism Mn+2. The Dn+2/Mn+2 phase is the most penetrative. It also affects the granitoids and has a transpressive kinematic related to the Brasiliano Orogeny. Shear zones, folds with vertical axial planes, a strong by dipping foliation Sn+2 and a low angle stretching lineation are the characteristics of this phase. It has a NNE structural trend. In the studied area, two regional shear zones occur. The Pocinhos-Remígio shear zone and its ramification, the Cacerengo shear zone. The point of ramification occurs in the southwestern portion of the mapped area. The mineral paragenesis record a retrogressive character toward the greenschist facies for Mn+2. Situated between the Pocinhos-Remígio and Cacerengo shear zones, the Dona Inês pluton, a granitoid with six different petrographic facies, shows a horizontally flat ellipsoidal shape (2 Km thick) and elongated (about 22 Km) parallel to the Sn+2 regional NE trend. At the surface, the pluton, has an elongated ellipsoidal shape and its internal fabric, a sinmagmatic foliation, in subconcordant with the regional trend shear zones and forms with these a typical S-C relation within large-scale dextral asymmetry. However, this fabric is a weak even at the vicinities of the high strain zones. These lines of evidence lead to the construction of an emplacement model controlled by the shear zones, although later than the Dn+2 deformation peak and related to a transtractional component, which is responsible for the opening of a tectonic cavity for intrusion accommodation on a dextral transpressive regime, well documented in other sectors of Brazilian Northeast. The age of the pluton of Dona Ines was determined by the Rb/Sr whole rock method as 560 '+ OU -' 20 Ma (end of Brasiliano Cycle in the region). Sm/Nd model ages in granitoids of Araras, Belém and Dona Inês have revealed paleoproterozoic ages for their crustal sources, as indicated by the negative 'épsilon' nd of this rocks.
