Abstract in English
The principal aim of this work was the petrological and lithochemical characterization of the rocks of an oceanic by hidrothermal paleosystem from the mesoproterozoic volcanosedimentary sequence of the Serra do Itaberaba Group. Within the igneous metabasites different lithotypes of hidrothermally altered rocks; could be separated including coarse-grained blastoporphyiritic rocks, coarse-grained rocks with long amphibole prisms, fine- to medium- grained rocks and very fine-grained rocks. The hydrothernally altered metavolcanoclastic basic rocks could be separated into banded metatuffs, probable lapillistones and lapilli-tuffs metatuffs with porphyroblast of diopside and volcanoclastic rocks with hornblende aggregates. The hydrothermally altered intermediate to felsic rocks can be also be separated into Diferente igneous and voIcanocastic rocks. In all these rocks, with increasing alteration the lithotypes produced are weakly altered rocks, rocks from the transitional zone, moderately altered rocks and strongly altered rocks. Other lithotypes produced by alteration are garnet-hornblende amphibolites, cummingtonite-garnet-chlorite schists, chloritites, potassified rocks and carbonated rocks. Mass balances shouwed that unaltered igneous metabasites within the hydrothermal alteration zone already show large chemical changes if compared with unaltered igneous metabasites outside this zone. This rocks were depleted in most trace metals, which are enriched in other altered rocks or form part of the overlying metalliferous metapelites and iron formations. Most of altered metabasites were enriched in Mg and Fe and were depeleted in Na, K and Ca. The other maior elements show different behaviours, being enriched in some samples and depleted in others. (Fe, Al, Ti, Mn, si e P). Si does not show, grate variations in these rocks. The only sample of an intensely cloritized metabasite e (489a) is very enriched in Mg but also in Fe, AI and Ti, and is very depleted in Si, Na, K and Ca. The intermediate igneous rocks are generally enriched in Fe, Mg and P, and depleted in AI, Ti, K, Na, tace metals and the REE. The concentrations of Ca, Mn, Mg and Sr decrease with increasing hidrothmal alteration. The different metaintermediate volcanoclastic rocks do not show such an homogeneous behaviour but, in an general way, were enriched in Fe, Ti, Al and P and depleted in Ca, Mn, and the REE. ln all these rocks the concentrations of Na, Ca and Mn tend to decrease with increasing hydrothmal alteration. Carbonated volcanoclastic intermediate rocks were enriched in Ca, Mg, K Ba, Rh, Li and U. In metabasic igneous protoliths and alterad rocks most of the 'delta POT. 18 O%o' values, in whole rock, vary from 5,9%o to 11,8%o, shouwing only sample of a strongly altered rock a value of 16,9%o. In meta-intermtediate igneous rocks these values vary from 14,1%o to 17,6%o and in most meta-intermediate volcanoclastic rocks from 15,3%o to 17,8%o. The genesis of these rocks is vinclulated to hydrothermal (activities in submarine volcanic structures induced by the emplacement of intermediate rocks and represent zones of propilitic alteration. Extensively carbonated zones occur specially below, the principal alteration zone. Locally some of these altered rocks were later affected by potassfication carbonation and albitization processes. Final alteration products do not depend so much on the nature of protolith but more on the permeability of the rocks, the temperature, and the chemical composition of the fluid. Strong alteration generates rocks with the same mineralogy, independent of the protolith being a basic or intermediate rock. Argililitc alteration zones, within the context of these hidrothermal paleosystems, were responsible for the formation of marundites (rocks rich in corindon + margarite '+ OU -' rutile '+ OU -' muscovite '+ OU -' plagioclase '+ OU -' turmaline).
