O caráter sin-orogênico do maciço é confirmado pela idade isocrônica Rb-Sr aqui obtida (654 '+ OU -' 24 Ma; r.i. = 0,7099).

The granitoid rocks occurring in the Piedade region, included in the local literature as part of an extensive elongated batholith that has received various designations (Piedade Complex; Ibiúna Batholith; Agudos Grandes Batholith), were the subject of faciological mapping, petrographic, geochemical and Rb-Sr isotopic studies. The present work defines in this area the Piedade granitic massif as a zoned subcircular body with about 100 sq. km, formed by a sequence of magmatic pulses with granitic s.s. compositions. These rocks exhibit a magmatic foliation (defined by the alignment of tabular feldspar megacrysts) that continued to develop in the solid state, and is mostly parallel to the contacts of the massif, getting more intense along its borders; the foliation of country schists and gneisses follow these contacts. The massif seems, therefore, to constitute a forceful intrusion, although additional studies would be necessary to define the exact emplacement mechanism (diapirism x balooning). The syn-orogenic character of the massif is confirmed by the Rb-Sr isocronic age here obtained (654 '+ OU -' 24 Ma; i.r. = 0.7099). Two different petrographic associations were discriminated. One is peraluminous, formed by monazite-bearing porphyritic muscovite-biotite granodiorites to monzogranites, and the other is metaluminous, and formed by titanite and allanite-bearing porphyritic biotite monzogranites. These contrasts, also reflected in their geochemistry, especially in the A/CNK, Mg# and REE patterns, could be a reflection of these magmas being derived from different crustal sources. The metaluminous lineage has affinities with the I-type granites while the peraluminous has some similarities with the S-types, differing from the latter, though, in some important petrographic and chemical aspects (absence of cordierite, A/CNK always lower than 1.1 etc). On the other hand, typical granites from both lineages present several similarities, e.g. petrographic (color indices = 8-10; porphyritic structures) and chemical (similar contents of CaO, 'Fe IND. 2''O IND. 3', 'Na IND. 2'O, 'K IND. 2'O, Ti'O IND. 2', 'P IND. 2''O IND. 5', Ba and Sr), pointing to the possibility that the observed differences are due to the contamination of originally metaluminous, alkali-calcic magmas, by reduced pelitic metassediments. Mafic to intermediate microgranular enclaves are relatively common in all the mapped units of the Piedade massif, and must correspond to manifestations of contemporaneous mafic magmatism which interacted with the granitic magmas to varied degrees. The magmatic fracionation within the two main lineages involve the withdrawal of plagioclase, biotite and (in the peraluminous lineage) muscovite, besides acessories (apatite, zircon and Fe-Ti oxide in both lineages; monazite in the peraluminous lineage; titanite and allanite at least towards the end of differentiation of the metaluminous lineage). The last differentiates from both lineages converge in composition, and thus the more felsic unit mapped in the massif (pink biotite monzogranites) may include rocks derived from both. On the other hand, some nearby granitic massifs thought as tardi-orogenic (Serra do Lopes, Pilar do Sul) are formed by fractionated granites showing some similarities with the latter unit (equivalent textures and color indices; similar A/CNK, Mg# and Rb contents), raising the possibility that it includes some rocks younger than the main portion of the Piedade massif.
