Abstract in Portuguese
O Grupo Talara (Bacia Talara, Eoceno do Noroeste do Peru), é constituído principalmente pelas formações Folhelhos Talara, Arenitos Talara e Pozo.

Abstract in English
The Talara Group (Talara Basin, Eocene of northwest Peru) mainly comprises the Talara Shales, the Talara Sandstones, and the Pozo Formation. Although microfossils are known in several of these stratigraphic intervals, little is known regarding their taxonomy, paleoecology, and biostratigraphic usefulness. Thirty-four taxa of calcareous nannofossils are here registered from the Talara Group in well cuttings from the Negritos and Carpitas wells (Graña Montero Petrolera S.A.) in the Talara Basin. Of these, thirty-three taxa are registered for the first time from this unit. The preservational quality of the taxa in the section sampled from the Negritos well reveals that the majority of these taxa were little affected by dissolution, suggesting that deposition must have taken place in relatively shallow depths (that is, above the carbonate compensation depth). The moderate quality of preservation and low diversity of the nannofossils in the Carpitas section is considered the result of dissolution at greater depths than in the Negritos section. Biozones are recognized on the basis of the extinction of the taxa Discoaster sublodoensis (NP 14), Chiasmolithus solitus (NP 15/NP 16), Helicosphaera seminulum (NP 15/NP 16/NP 17) e Discoaster barbadiensis (NP 19/NP 20), which allow the Talara Group to be dated as Middle to Late Eocene. Variations in the frequency between nannofossil taxa characteristic of warm and temperate waters are interpreted as reflecting temperature changes due to global cooling, upwelling, or sea level changes due to the tectonic instability of the basin. The most frequent and most diversified taxa in both sections are characteristic of low latitudes and nearshore environments. The lack of other detailed studies of calcareous nannofossils in the basin seriously limits both attempts to correlate the proposed biozones and the utility of the paleoenvironmental and paleogeography information of this study.
