Em 1988 Hermann Karcher construiu torres de selas com 2n fins simétricos, n maior ou igual a 3. Estas torres de selas generalizam a torre de selas de 4 fins simétricas obtida por H. Scherk em 1834. Neste trabalho estudamos a existência dessas torres de selas e desenvolvemos a teoria básica das superfícies mínimas com ênfase nas simetrias obtidas com o princípio de reflexão de Schwarz
