A partir das posições teóricas que afirmam que a adolescência é uma fase de lutos e reorganização da identidade e das discussões atuais sobre a antecipação da puberdade feminina e a influência da mídia na idealização do corpo feminino, este trabalho procura contribuir para a compreensão do início da adolescência na mulher. Baseia-se em uma pesquisa com 20 garotas de 12 anos, de classe média e média-alta da cidade de São Paulo, através de entrevistas, Desenho da Figura Humana e Método de Rorschach. Após análise qualitativa e quantitativa dos resultados, observa que estas têm uma auto-imagem mais negativa que positiva. As jovens identificam-se muito com os pais e outros familiares, mas também com os colegas e com os modelos veiculados pelos meios de comunicação. As identificações são, no entanto, mais fantasiosas que reais, pois vivem um momento de restrição nas relações e elevação do egocentrismo. Elas possuem muitos recursos afetivos e cognitivos, mas eles não estão totalmente disponíveis para auxiliá-las neste momento. Conclui que o início da adolescência feminina é uma fase de fragilidade egóica devido às pressões internas e externas, e que o meio social dificulta o processo de reorganização da identidade ao impor padrões idealizados de beleza e não oferecer um lugar de pertencimento a essas jovens.

Starting from theoretical considerations regarding adolescence as a phase of mourning and identity reorganization, as well as from current discussions on the anticipation of the feminine puberty and the influence of media on feminine body idealization, this study intends to contribute to the understanding of the beginning of adolescence in women. The research is based on 20 twelve-year-old middle class girls, assessed through interviews, Human Figure Drawings and the Rorschach. After quantitative and qualitative analysis, we concluded that these girls present a negative rather than positive self-image. They identify themselves with their parents and other relatives, but also with friends and media standards. These identifications are, however, more imaginary than real, due to restrictions in their relationships and to the intensifying of their self-centered disposition. They have many cognitive and emotional resources, although these are not completely available at this moment. It follows that the beginning of adolescence in women is a phase of ego vulnerability due to internal and external pressures. The social environment makes this process of reorganization of identity even more difficult, by imposing idealized beauty standards, depriving these adolescents of a more genuine emotional context and spaces for belonging.
