Abstract in English
This study focus on the influence of the jail environment over the autobiographic narratives of eight men older than 45 years old, closed in a prison institution located at Santo André City, region of ABC São Paulo, collected during the year of 1997. After the qualitative analysis of the facts, it`s observed three outstanding characteristics on the evocation of the those interviewed autobiographic narratives: 1) they are involved by social history and by scenes of cultural and family references that structure their personal experiences lived in the past; 2) the basic experiences lived in the jail environment, such as the breaking off, the slavery and the limitation, often structure the shape and the contents of the narratives; 3) the personal experiences evoked by the interviewed, often refer to analogous episodes to the experiences currently lived in the jail environment. This study finally considers that the jail environment embarras the current mnemonic process of the interviewed, what makes the examination free from its autobiographic evocations, strongly determined by the structure of this environment that wrap and affect them. Such considerations are asserted based on the analysis of the interviews from the survey of the properties of this environment and the theoretical-methodic scene of the Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza, more specifically from his ideas about the working of the memory and the imagination, and the meaning and the causes of the human servitude.
