Recherche biographique en éducation

Just caring? Sensitive body and learning in the home care of children

Nannies education
Abstract in English
This study aims to contribute to the development of an educational perspective on domestic childcare provided by nannies. According to the epistemological and methodological framework of biographical research, it is based on the documentation of life stories of Brazilian women who work as nannies in France and its interpretation from a hermeneutic perspective. By investigating the ways in which these subjects construct their educational function, the research focuses on the body as an analyzer of the multiple learnings involved in domestic childcare both those experienced by the nanny-child-family triad in the daily care routine, and those that constitute the formation of the nanny throughout life. Based on the notion of sensitive body, the interpretative work of the narratives allows us to understand care as an educational bond, permeated by the transmission of symbolic marks. Regarding the education of these informal educators, interpretations derived from the notions of bildung and biographical learning shed light on the biographical genesis of the knowledge put into action in their work. It is clear that, in the ethnolandscapes of domestic childcare, the nanny occupies an intermediate space between, on the one hand, the marks coming from her own lived paths and, on the other hand, the cultures (national, familial, etc.) of the places where she works, being able to provide an educational openness. Finally, the present study is designed as research-formation, emphasizing the centrality of biographisation operations through which nannies life narratives are configured as spaces for transcreation of experience.
