Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar, analisar, interpretar e contar a história da fundação do Núcleo de Consciência Negra (NCN), que se estabeleceu, em 1987, dentro da universidade de maior visibilidade da América Latina, como forma de resistência para promover um grande debate acerca do racismo e da posição de inferioridade da/o negra/o brasileiro. Com o passar do tempo o debate político também se transformou em ações educacionais direcionadas para a comunidade negra e não negra, para promover uma educação crítica, reflexiva e emancipadora. O Núcleo de Consciência Negra, ainda presente e atuando dentro da USP, faz parte da história de lutas contra a discriminação racial e vem promovendo ações afirmativas que visam educar a população negra em atos públicos, cursinho prévestibular, cursos de idiomas, alfabetização, cultura e arte e reeducar a sociedade sobre as relações étnico-raciais no Brasil. Foram tomadas como fontes de pesquisa: entrevistas com membros do núcleo, estatuto, publicações do NCN, publicações em outros veículos de informação mais gerais, como periódicos da Universidade e da grande imprensa, dentre outras fontes de pesquisa. Desta forma, foi preciso olhar também para a história da Universidade a partir de outro ponto de vista, o ponto de vista das questões étnico-raciais.

This research aimed to investigate, analyze, interpret and tell the story of the founding of the Núcleo de Consciência Negra (NCN), which was established in 1987 within the most visible university in Latin America, as a form of resistance to promote a great debate about racism. and the inferior position of black Brazilians. Over time, the political debate also transformed into educational actions aimed at the black and non-black community, to promote critical, reflective and emancipatory education. The Black Consciousness Center, still present and operating within USP, is part of the history of struggles against racial discrimination and has been promoting affirmative actions that aim to educate the black population in public events, pre-university courses, language courses, literacy, culture and art and re-educate society about ethnic-racial relations in Brazil. The following research sources were taken: interviews with core members, statutes, NCN publications, publications in other more general information vehicles, such as University periodicals and the mainstream press, among other research sources. Therefore, it was also necessary to look at the history of the University from another point of view, the point of view of ethnic-racial issues.
