Abstract in English
This doctoral research, initially focused on the historical sphere, set out to investigate the practices of engineers-professors who taught mathematics at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli-USP), covering the period between the beginning of the Republic and the beginning of the 20th century, up to approximately 1934. The historical investigation focused on the context of the creation of USP, also attempting to analyze the possible spectra that permeated the disputes over the mathematics disciplines at PoliUSP. The text brought political aspects, financial and power disputes, as well as educational and ideological motives that permeated this process. This led to a selfreflection on teaching practice, resulting in an approach that moved between Mathematics Education and History of Mathematics Education. The historical awareness developed along the path of study contributed to the analysis dedicated to teaching practices and Mathematics Education in a Technological Education context. Supported by a variety of source materials, including books, periodicals, interviews and institutional regulations, the research sought methodological support in the theories of Cultural History, especially in the studies of Michel de Certeau and Roger Chartier, and in theories of Mathematics Education, particularly Ethnomathematics.
