Abstract in English
This dissertation describes the isolation and structural elucidation of the chemical constituents present in the ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Vernonia eremophila (Vernonieae, Asteraceae) as well as the results of biological and/or pharmacological tests carried out on crude extracts, isolated substances and reaction products obtained from one of these. From the ethyl acetate extract, were isolated the sesquiterpene lactones, glaucolide-B, 8 α-acetoxy-2-epi-vernomargolide, 8 α-hydroxy-2-epi-vernomargolide-1,4-ciclohemiacetal and the flavonol 3, 7-dimethoxy-5,3' ,4'-trihydroxyflavone. The substance 8 α-acetoxy-2-epi-vernomargolide has not previusly reported in the literature. From the methanol extract, the flavonol 3, 7-dimethoxy-5, 3', 4'-trihydroxyflavone was also isolated. The isolation of the chemical constituents was carried out using chromatographic techniques while the structural elucidation involved spectroscopic methods (IV, UV, 1H, and 13C NMR and MS). Tests were carried out to evaluate antimicrobian activity against several microorganisms; molluscicidal activity against adult and embryonic forms of Biomphalaria glabrata; activity against the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi as well as antinociceptive and anti-edematogenic activity.
