Pesquisou-se a legislação sanitária e de interesse para a saúde, no Estado de Santa Catarina, no período republicano até março de 1975, estudando-se suas influências na estruturação dos serviços de saúde pública. Concebeu-se um modelo de verificação do prestígio institucional do setor saúde, que foi experimentalmente aplicado, concluindo-se que o período 1971/1975 apresentou o desempenho mais uniformemente positivo de todo o segmento histórico estudado. Sugerem-se modificações na organização central do setor e, em especial, propõe-se um modelo de Assessoria Jurídica em Saúde Pública.

Health legislation and legislation related to health in the state of Santa Catarina, from the beginning of the republican period up to March 1975, was researched and its influence upon the structure of the public health services was studied. A pattern for the examination of the institutional prestige of the health sector, which was experimentally applied, was conceived and the conclusion was that the 1971/1975 period presented the most uniformly positive performance of the whole historical segment analysed. Modifications in the central organization of the hea1th sector are suggested and a model of juridical assessorship in Public Health is specially proposed.
