Este estudo baseia-se na análise de seis coleções cerâmicas de sítios arqueológicos localizados na bacia do rio Ji-Paraná, no estado de Rondônia. Nesta área, segundo modelos lingüísticos e arqueológicos, estaria localizado o centro de dispersão dos grupos de línguas do tronco Tupi, devido à grande diversidade de línguas deste tronco que hoje lá se encontram. As evidências arqueológicas presentes na região apontam para atributos relacionados à cerâmica da tradição Tupiguarani, mas também possui outras características particulares. Através de dados arqueológicos, etnográficos e lingüísticos procurou-se estabelecer características universais que possam estar presentes na cerâmica desde o início da dispersão dos povos Tupi.

The main aim of this study is the analisys of six ceramics collections, from Ji-Paraná basin, Rondônia State. In this area, linguistics e archaeological models supposes that should be the center of dispersion of the Tupi languages, because the diversity Tupi languages spoken in the present. The archaeological evidence shows some attributes from Tupiguarani Tradition, but should be find another peculiar characteristics. Based upon linguistic, ethnographic and archaeological data was tried to find universal characteristics that should be present in the ceramic since the begin of Tupian dispersion.
