Abstract in English
The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the pre-colonial occupation in a group of adjacent counties around the Juiz de Fora region of the state of Minas Gerais, through cultural material discovered at archeological sites and the nature of their arrangement in the landscape. Thus, we analyzed sets of ceramic and lithic artefacts, as well as available maps of the area, on which we plotted the sites and described the characteristics of their foundations. This led to the creation of a table of parameters, which enables comparisons to be made with other sites around the surveyed region as well as with other regions. Upon comparing the results we obtained with the Tupi bibliography, we were able to ascertain points in common and detect regional idiosyncrasies. By regarding archeology as a form of perennial history of indigenous groups, we made an effort to try and establish a bridge between material traces and available historical information, in support of a Tupi Archeology.
