Abstract in English
This PhD dissertation studies the production and distribution of Roman oil lamps made of clay in the Orbis Romanorum during 2nd and 3nd CE by means of thin-section analysis and comparative research, in order to identify workshops in the Levant. The results are compared with modes of production and distribution of Roman oil lamps of North African workshops, against their social and economic implications. This comparative research seeks trends of continuity, discontinuity and change of style and technology in order to foster our understanding of space and cultural identity definition amongst social groups that used clay lamps as social and mental marker
