Keywords in Portuguese
antimalárica
fungo marinho
produtos naturais marinhos

Isolation and identification of bioactive metabolites from a fungal strain from the marine environment

Abstract in English
Natural products have, over time, shown significant importance for human health and in the pharmaceutical industry. These can be isolated from several sources. However, natural products isolated from marine organisms and microorganisms have attracted increasing interest in research due to their chemical diversity and their potential for the development of new medicines. Marine natural products have been found in different marine organisms, such as corals, sponges, molluscs, crustaceans, among others, presenting a wide variety of chemical structures and biological activities. The organic extract from the growth medium of the fungus Peroneutypa sp, associated with a sea cucumber, exhibited antiplasmodial activity. Fractionation of this extract using various chromatographic techniques led to the isolation of five compounds, two of which were known and three were new. Spectroscopic and spectrometric analyzes were used to assign the structure of the isolated compounds. Specific bioassays for antiplasmodial activity were performed with the isolated compounds in order to determine their activities.
