Abstract in English
This thesis aims at discussing the book The Human Condition by Hannah Arendt. The research seeks to contribute to the discussions on Arendtian thought by developing an analysis of The Human Condition centred on the concept of plurality. Our hypothesis is that the concept of plurality brings Arendt's political thought to light and drives us away from misconceptions. We develop our hypothesis through three chapters that runs through the social, the world and the council system. In the first chapter we show the problem of the social question so that we will counter the reading of Hannah Pitkin by denying the mythological character of the social and assuming its intrinsic relation with the attack against the plurality through its product, the desolation. The research will be based on the detailed analysis of the vita activa. In the second chapter, we will look at the concept of world, as this is an essential concept not only for understanding plurality, but also a valuable element within The Human Condition. For this, we will approach the concept of crisis to reveal the meaning in which the world arises in Arendt's work. Finally, we will develop the analysis about the council system, since we argue for this as the answer found by Arendt in favour of plurality. In general, the analysis of the council system in Arendtian thought focus only on the book On Revolution, but we will show that already in The Human Condition we can find elements that brings the council system as her answer to the problem of plurality. We further argue that there is a close relationship between Arendt's and Rosa Luxemburg's thought on the council system.
