Esta tese analisa a trajetória histórica do sistema portuário brasileiro em três períodos distintos. Destaca-se a mudança no ranking dos principais portos desde 1970, culminando na centralidade dos portos asiáticos na contemporaneidade. Defendemos que a conteinerização aparece como ruptura paradigmática, evidenciando seu impacto no mapa-múndi portuário. Os portos asiáticos apresentam infraestrutura concebidas a partir de vastos espaços maleáveis e adaptáveis às exigências de modernidade do período contemporâneo. O porto de Santos emerge como espaço da globalização dominado pela racionalidade técnica e fluidez em rede, contudo persiste a vulnerabilidade destes espaços

This thesis analyzes the historical trajectory of the Brazilian port system in three distinct periods. It highlights the shift in the ranking of major ports since 1970, culminating in the centrality of Asian ports in contemporary times. We argue that containerization emerges as a paradigmatic shift, showcasing its impact on the global port map. Asian ports exhibit infrastructure designed from expansive and adaptable spaces to meet the modern requirements of the contemporary period. The port of Santos emerges as a space of globalization dominated by technical rationality and network fluidity; however, the vulnerability of these spaces persists
