O presente trabalho é um estudo dos editoriais dos jornais O Estado de São Paulo e Folha de São Paulo entre os meses de janeiro e março de 1991, com o objetivo de compreender como os dois jornais apresentaram suas visões sobre a ideia de tecnologia na cobertura da Guerra do Golfo. A investigação dos editoriais de dois dos mais importantes órgãos da imprensa escrita brasileira, da época, permitiu verificar se a tecnologia foi representada como uma das protagonistas da guerra na visão daqueles periódicos, já que o conflito é conhecido como guerra tecnológica. Trata-se de uma pesquisa que dialoga com História Militar, História da Ciência e da Tecnologia, História Política e Imprensa. A primeira parte busca compreender, por meio de estudo bibliográfico, como a alta tecnologia miliar se transformou e se tornou a grande aposta dos Estados Unidos no pós-Vietnã para garantir a supremacia tecnológica do país para vencer guerras. Depois se buscou demonstrar como tais mudanças levaram a elaboração de nova doutrina de defesa dos Estados Unidos, a Doutrina Powell, que teve como ensaio para sua aplicação o conflito no Golfo. Posteriormente foi trabalhada a imprensa como fonte escrita, o american way of journalism (modelo estadunidense de jornalismo) e a breve história dos jornais "O Estado de São Paulo" e "Folha de São Paulo". Por fim, verificou-se que como a tecnologia foi representada como uma das protagonistas nos editoriais, por meio da análise de três temas presentes nos editoriais ligados à tecnologia: as armas e a guerra tecnológica, a Operação Mordaça do Deserto e o bem (Bush) x mal (Saddam)

This work is a study about the editorials of the O Estado de São Paulo and Folha de São Paulo newspapers between the months of January and March 1991, with the objective of understanding how the two newspapers presented their visions about the idea of technology in the coverage of the Gulf War. The investigation of the editorials of two of the most important organs of the Brazilian written press, at the time, allowed to verify if technology was represented as one of the protagonists of the war in the view of those periodicals, since the conflict is known as technological war. It is a research that dialogues with Military History, History of Science and Technology, Political History and the Press. The first part seeks to understand, through a bibliographical study, how high military technology was transformed and became the great bet of the United States in the post-Vietnam period to guarantee the country's technological supremacy to win wars. Afterwards, we sought to demonstrate how such changes led to the elaboration of a new defense doctrine for the United States, the Powell Doctrine, which had the conflict in the Gulf as a test for its application. Subsequently, the press was worked on as a written source, the American way of journalism (American model of journalism) and the brief history of the newspapers "O Estado de São Paulo" and "Folha de São Paulo". Finally, it was verified that as technology was represented as one of the protagonists in the editorials, through the analysis of three themes present in the editorials related to technology: weapons and technological warfare, Operation Gag of the Desert and good (Bush ) x evil (Saddam)
