Keywords in Portuguese
Arqueologia Medieval
Crise alimentar
Produção de alimentos

Medieval Archaeology
Abstract in English
The sharp increase in references to famine in written sources from Europe from the second half of the 8th century onwards is a phenomenon widely studied by historians. These documents paint a grave picture, with references to extreme climatic phenomena and high mortality. Archaeology, on the other hand, offers another point of view on the food crises of the early Middle Ages, built from material remains. The main aim of this research is to analyse the food situation in a specific place, the Parisian region, between the 8th and 10th centuries. To this end, I intend to carry out a comparative study of thirteen archaeological sites, focusing on the animal and plant remains recovered during excavation. Through this study I will look for signs of crisis or stability and, where possible, I will also look for traces of the impact of the famine on the professions studied. During the development of the analysis, I will also address the relationship of the famine with climatic factors and trade networks insofar as these issues are intertwined with my main objective
