Abstract in English
The constitution of History as a specific discipline was based, since the 19th century, on the dissemination of discourses about its methods. Such discourses served as practical, symbolic and rhetorical instruments to define and differentiate internally and externally the practitioners of the discipline. This dissertation aims at the historical reconstruction and discussion about the meanings of the discourse of methods in Brazilian historiography. It is intended to understand the collective effects that these discourses produced in the regulation of historiographical practice and in the identify of historians. In order to do so, we analyzed the social and institutional conditions of transmission of meta-historical discourses specifically between the 1950s and 1960s, a fundamental context for the consolidation of History as a university discipline. The objetive is, therefore, to examine how the discourse of methods acted in the symbolic constitution of the intelecctual authority of historians as researchers in the context of the profissionalization of History in Brazil.
