Abstract in English
The Euthydemus is a dialogue in which we can find characteristics that focus more on discussing the dialogical procedures both the eristical and the philosophical discourse than on the examination of a specific topic. Thus, it is possible observe in this work aspects that could be considered as metadialogical. The main goal of this research is to discuss Plato's appropriation and use of the eristical model of discussion (practiced in a disputed environment and characterized by the philosopher as a 'false knowledge') and to what extent the eristic is opposed to philosophical practice (in a friendly environment and defined as the appropriate method for the search for knowledge). In this sense, the Euthydemus dialogue is emblematic. In order to emphasize this distinction, it is also part of this research to confront the analysis of the Euthydemus with the analysis of the Lysis, since this dialogue offers significant elements that characterize the philosophical practice, starting with its own thematic axis: philia, essential topic to philosophy. The analysis of the dramatic and formal aspects of these two dialogues can bring very positive results in the understanding of the Platonic philosophy. It is from this perspective that I propose to develop this work: confronting the two dialogues as paradigmatic examples of the dialogical procedure that characterizes sometimes by means of similarities, sometimes by means of differences both practices. Finally, this thesis also presents the full translation of the Euthydemus from Greek to Portuguese.
