Este trabalho pretende analisar a dinâmica entre "passado" e "futuro" na peça Pedreira das Almas, de Jorge Andrade, buscando relacioná-la ao processo de modernização brasileiro entre as décadas de 1950 e 1970. Esmiuçando as oposições e as contradições entre "vida" e "morte" – ou "passado" e "futuro" – esboçadas ao longo da peça, analisaremos as correlações que podem ser observadas com a busca desenfreada pelo "novo", por parte da burguesia nacional, no período de elaboração das três diferentes versões de Pedreira das Almas: 1958, 1960 e 1970.

This paper intends to analyze the dynamics between "past" and "future" in the play Pedreira das Almas, by Jorge Andrade, trying to relate it to the Brazilian modernization process between the 1950s and the 1970s. By scrutinizing the oppositions and contradictions between "life" and "death", "past" and "future" outlined throughout the play, we will analyze the correlations that can be observed with the unbridled search for the "new" by the national bourgeoisie in the period of elaboration of the three different versions of Pedreira das Almas: 1958, 1960 and 1970.
