Este trabalho busca os nexos do filme O Homem do Pau Brasil (1981), de Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, com a literatura e outras artes. Tendo como centro do enredo a figura de Oswald de Andrade, o estudo pretende investigar como o diretor lê o modernismo brasileiro e como ocorre a reelaboração dos problemas literários no cinema em um outro momento histórico de nossa cultura. Para tanto, busca-se elucidar o princípio formal que rege a composição, bem como verificar de que modo a estrutura do longa-metragem se articula com a matéria brasileira, nas formas culturais, sociais e políticas. Ademais, tenciona-se discutir a concepção de história nele implicada, comparando-o com algumas releituras da obra oswaldiana, produzidas no contexto de ditadura militar. Enfim, propõe-se debater em que medida os procedimentos mobilizados no filme são capazes de fazer frente aos impasses e contradições histórico-sociais, entranhados na formalização estética.

This work aims to find the links between Joaquim Pedro de Andrade's movie O Homem do Pau Brasil (1981) and literature and other arts. With Oswald de Andrade as the center of the plot, this study intends to investigate how the director reads Brazilian modernism and how the reelaboration of literary problems in cinema works, in another historical moment of our culture. In order to do so, the analysis seeks to elucidate the formal principle that organizes the movie's composition, as well as to verify how the structure of the feature film is articulated with Brazilian subject, in cultural, social and political forms. Furthermore, this study discusses the conception of history involved in the movie, comparing it with some re-readings of Oswald's work which were produced in the context of the military dictatorship. Finally, this paper aims to debate to what extent the procedures mobilized by the film are capable of facing the social and historical impasses and contradictions consolidated in the aesthetic formalization.
