The similarities and differences: literary periodicals in perspective

Abstract in English
A Águia was the mouthpiece of the "Renascença Portuguesa" and this journal´s second series was, at least in its first years, heavily influenced by Saudosismo, a tendency whose leader was Teixeira de Pascoaes. A Águia was the starting point for several other important periodicals, among them Seara Nova and Terra de Sol. This research focuses on the second series of A Águia and compares this important journal with Seara Nova and Terra de Sol. Identifying the similarities and differences in these three periodicals, we were able to probe into several issues concerning the relationship between Brazil and Portugal in the first decades of the 20th century: the concepts of nation imbedded in the discourses found in these periodicals; the idea of engagement among the intellectuals involved in these projects; and the relationship between Brazilian and Portuguese modernismos.
