Abstract in English
The aim of this research is to obtain technological subsidies to improve the thermomechanical treatments and the better relationships between chemical composition, microstructure and properties af ABNT 1450 Nb steel. Different parts of the automobile industry like a connecting rod, coupling arbor, wheel suspension, axis, connections bars, small gear and the other hot forged parts produced in closed dies at the as forged condition are manufactured from bars of micro alloy Nb steel. The concern in developing alloys added by Nb in Brazil is enormous, because we own 90% of Nb reserves in the word. The advantages of using these steels is the reduction of the costs procedures, because the expensive stage of quench and temper heat treatments is not necessary. Recently, the uses of these steels are growing, but the knowledge about the effects of Nb in the microstructures and properties is small. For this reason, its applications can be considered still limited. The proposal of this work is: a) to identify through the use of the hot-stage microscope, the solubilization temperature of the precipitates that controls the austenitic grain growth and the kinetic behaviour as well. b) Using the atomic force microscape, to verify the microstructure of the steel and to measure the angle between the grain boundaries to check by the experiments, the mathematical modelling of the maximum grain growth reached along the heating process. c) To delineate the CCT diagram (Continuous Cooling Transformation) of ABNT 1450 Nb steel and the microstructures resulted from the austenite decomposition. d) To determine the correspondence between the cooling rate of CCT curves and the Jominy hardenability tests. e) To identify and determine the percentage of pearlite and ferrite in different points of the microstruture of the ABNT 1450 Nb forged part. The reason for this study is to assist a project of a forged mechanical component (conecting rod) of ABNT 1450 Nb steel, analysing the various microstructures and suggesting the best thermal cycle composed of pearlite and ferrite in its microstructures after the forging operation.
