Abstract in English
The high global incidence of Anxiety Disorders, added to the side effects arising from the most prescribed conventional pharmacological treatments, inclines us to look for active ingredients with potent biological effects and low toxicity for human health, such as anxiolytic bioactive peptides. The GABAergic system has been shown to be capable of modulating the symptoms of Anxiety Disorders through agonistic activity at GABA A receptors, as these when activated decrease the central excitability, one of the main biomarkers of this category of neuropsychiatric disorders. This work presents 8 bioactive peptides that had an anxiolytic effect in vitro and/or in animal behavioral paradigms through direct or indirect action on GABA A receptors, they are: Selank, Alpha-casozepine, YL, YLG, Ovolina, Weylin 1, Weylin 2 and Rubimetide.
