A pirólise de biomassa é um dos métodos mais promissores para tratamento de diferentes tipos de resíduos. Esta dissertação de mestrado tem como objetivo analisar sua utilização para geração de energia por meio de resíduos sólidos urbanos. Tem como base a Lei 12.305/2010, que instituiu a Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos. Inclui o potencial de geração de energia de resíduos, diferentes modos de pirólise e possíveis produtos, aplicações e suas vantagens e desvantagens, histórico desta tecnologia, princípio de funcionamento de um reator de pirólise, noções sobre geradores elétricos para não-especialistas, a dificuldade em conceituar biomassa, termos técnicos como bio-óleo, syngas, biochar (biocarvão), a importância das biorrefinarias, perspectivas futuras da pirólise de biomassa, aspectos relacionados sobre negócios, a importância das cooperativas de catadores na separação dos resíduos. Discute condições para introdução e disseminação desta tecnologia no Brasil

Biomass pyrolysis is one of the most promising methods for treating different types of waste. This master's thesis aims to analyze its use for power generation through urban solid waste. It is based on Brazilian Federal Law 12.305 / 2010, which established the National Policy on Solid Waste. It includes the potential of waste energy generation, different pyrolysis modes and possible products, applications and their advantages and disadvantages, history of this technology, principle of operation of a pyrolysis reactor, notions about electric generators for non-specialists, the difficulty in conceptualizing biomass, technical terms such as bio-oil, syngas, biochar, the importance of biorefineries, future perspectives of biomass pyrolysis, related business aspects, the importance of waste picker cooperatives in waste separation. Discusses conditions for introduction and dissemination of this technology in Brazil
