Esta tese de doutorado buscou abordar o desafio de sistematizar o conhecimento sobre ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) e a importância de sua aplicação no contexto em que se insere. O principal objetivo foi desenvolver um método que almeja facilitar o processo de planejamento e melhorar indicadores de sustentabilidade de organizações do agronegócio, principalmente grandes produtores e grupos agrícolas. O trabalho é dividido em três etapas: pesquisa bibliográfica, análise documental de relatórios de sustentabilidade de dez grupos agrícolas selecionados e dez entrevistas em profundidade com especialistas no tema. Com base nas informações coletadas e na análise realizada, foi desenvolvido um passo a passo com sete etapas embasados na Teoria da Estruturação Forte, que considera, por sua vez, o equilíbrio entre ambiente interno e externo da organização como primordial à sustentabilidade corporativa. A contribuição teórica está no campo do planejamento estratégico ao estender os conhecimentos da Teoria da Estruturação Forte de Stones (2005) ao campo da sustentabilidade e do ESG no Agronegócio. A contribuição metodológica, se dá na criação de um novo método no tema ESG para empresas desse setor. Gerencialmente, as contribuições estão na identificação dos interesses dos stakeholders, antecipação de mudanças no contexto, desenvolvimento de estratégias em sustentabilidade e abertura de novas oportunidades.

This doctoral thesis sought to address the challenge of systematizing knowledge about ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and the importance of its application in the context in which it is inserted. The main objective was to develop a method that aims to facilitate the planning process and improve sustainability indicators of agribusiness organizations, mainly large producers and agricultural groups. The work is divided into three stages: bibliographic research, documentary analysis of sustainability reports from ten selected agricultural groups and ten in-depth interviews with experts on the subject. Based on the information collected and the analysis carried out, a step-by-step with seven stages was developed based on the Strong Structuration Theory, which considers, in turn, the balance between the internal and external environment of the organization as essential to corporate sustainability. The theoretical contribution is in the field of strategic planning through the knowledge of Stones' Strong Structuring Theory (2005) in the field of sustainability and ESG in Agribusiness. The methodological contribution is in the creation of a new method on the ESG theme for companies in this sector. In general, the contributions are in the identification of stakeholders' interests, anticipation of changes in the context, development of sustainability strategies and opening up new opportunities.
