Estilos cognitivos

Abstract in English
The aim of this study is to evaluate expressive variations in the cognitive styles according to academic profile of accounting students of UNIRG/TO. Professional occupation, education background of the students, hours dedicated to extra class activities, age, gender, salary and academic performance were analyzed in order to identify the Academic Profile of the students. Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) was used to identify Cognitive Style particularly Field Dependence- Independence. The study included 240 students (82% of the population). Nonparametric statistical tests and multivariable regression analysis allowed us to verify that age variables, grades, hours dedicated to extra class activities and salary showed expressive variation in cognitive style. The conclusion is that older students with lower grades, more extra class activities and lower salary, tend more to Field Dependence. Knowing these cognitive differences, it is possible to develop teaching strategies in order to improve the relationship between teachers and students, offering more effectiveness and quality to learning-teaching process, mainly in the study area. Other important contribution is to identify that the predominant cognitive style in the population (field dependent) is different from what the labor market needs. Considering that this study was done in Amazon, where has a great agricultural and anthropological potential, we consider that to insert an accounting professional into the professional market is more than offering a job, it is to help the sustainable regional development.
