Este trabalho objetivou analisar o papel dos croquis nos processos de projeto de arquitetura. Procurou revelar, a partir de uma pesquisa baseada, em levantamentos e na prática projetual, o significado e função dos desenhos utilizados pelos arquitetos para a configuração dos artefatos arquitetônicos. Demonstrou o papel fundamental dos croquis, nesta configuração, por intermédio de uma abordagem que visou reconstituir as etapas iniciais e decisórias de alguns processos de projeto. Confirmando que os procedimentos de projeto são realizados por aproximações sucessivas, abordou como uma compreensão mais adequada dos croquis pode auxiliar no ensino e na aprendizagem de projeto nas faculdades de arquitetura.

The aim of this project was to analyze the role of architectural drawings in the design process. The research was based on surveys and architectural design practice, and sought to reveal the meaning and purpose of the drawings that were used by a group of architects for the configuration of their architectural artifacts. The fundamental role of the observed sketches in the act of architectural configuration was demonstrated by adopting an approach that attempted to reframe the initial and determining stages in given design processes. The findings confirmed that consecutive iterations are conducted throughout the architectural design process. This led to the consideration of how a more adequate understanding of architectural drawings can contribute to higher level education, in particular towards the teaching of architectural design practice in architecture schools.
