Este texto tem o objetivo de sistematizar e consolidar a produção científica do pesquisador de 1994 a 2003 na área de processos anaeróbios de tratamento de águas residuárias. O enfoque principal é dado ao desenvolvimento e análise de reatores anaeróbios de leito fixo contendo biomassa imobilizada, com ênfase no reator anaeróbio horizontal de leito fixo e no reator anaeróbio operado em bateladas seqüenciais. Os dois reatores constituem a linha mestra da produção científica nesses 10 anos e foram concebidos e estudados com base em parâmetros racionais, sempre buscando o aprimoramento e a otimização do desempenho.

This text aimed at the systematization of the scientific production of the author from 1994 to 2003 in the research area of anaerobic wastewater treatment. The development of packed-bed anaerobic reactors is presented with emphasis in horizontal-flow immobilized-biomass reactors and anaerobic sequencing batch biofilm reactors. Technological and scientific aspects of these reactors have been widely studied in order to provide parameters for their simulation, optimization and scale-up.
