No capítulo 1 é apresentado um artigo, publicado em 2014, sobre a Origem e diversificação de Cnidaria: Neoproterozoico ao Cambriano Inferior (Origin and Early Diversification of the Phylum Cnidaria Verrill: Apparent Convergence of Molecular Phylogenies and the Fossil Record. Palaeontology, Frontiers in Palaeontology- Special Issue). Os resultados desses estudos são apresentados em um capítulo de livro, publicado em 2016 (Origin and Early Diversification of Phylum Cnidaria: Key Macrofossils from the Ediacaran System of North and South America. In: S. Goffredo, Z. Dubinsky. (Org.). The Cnidaria, Past, Present and Future. 1ed.Cham: Springer International Publishing AG), em um artigo de 2008 (Cladistic analysis of the suborder Conulariina Miller and Gurley, 1896, Cnidaria, Scyphozoa; Vendian-Triassic, Palaeontology) e em um artigo de 2015 (Conulários do Devoniano do Brasil: importância paleobiogeográfica. Boletim do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. Um dos artigos, foi publicado em 2015 (Insights into the skeletonization, lifestyle, and affinity of the unusual ediacaran fossil Corumbella. Plos One).

This document followed the rules specified in the notice to tender for qualifications and tests to obtain the Title of Associated Professor in the Department of Sedimentary and Environmental Geology, IGc / USP, being presented in text form summarizing part of the candidate's work. Thus, the presented document is structured in a set of articles and chapter of book already published, as well as an article submitted and an unpublished text. From the obtained data is presented a panorama about the researches in the last years on the Ediacaran and Paleozoic cnidarians and their paleoecological and paleoevolutionary implications. Chapter 1 presents an article, published in 2014, on the Origin and Diversification of Cnidaria: Neoproterozoic to the Lower Cambrian (Origin and Early Diversification of the Phylum Cnidaria Verrill: Apparent Convergence of Molecular Phylogenies and the Fossil Record, Palaeontology, Frontiers in Palaeontology - Special Issue. This article presents a review on the occurrence of cnidarians in the Neoproterozoic, including Brazilian fossils, as well as an approach on the implication of the fossil record in the phylogeny of the group. The discovery of a new fossil of Paraconularia sp. in the Neoproterozoic of Brazil (Corumbá Group) and their phylogenetic and evolutionary inferences are presented in Chapter 2. In addition, the phylogenetic analysis of the conulariids and the discussion of the affinities of this group with the Cnidaria and the implications of the occurrences of the conulariids in the diversification and paleogeography during the Paleozoic are also portrayed. The results of these studies are presented in a book chapter, published in 2016 (Origin and Early Diversification of Phylum Cnidaria: Key Macrofossils from the Edited System of North and South America, in S. Goffredo, Z. Dubinsky, (Cladistic analysis of the suborder Conulariina Miller and Gurley, 1896, Cnidaria, Scyphozoa, Vendian-Triassic, Palaeontology), and in an article from 2015 (Conulariids of the Devonian of Brazil: paleobiogeographic importance, Bulletin of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi, Natural Sciences). Chapter 3 includes two articles on paleoecology, morphology and phylogenetic affinities of Corumbella werneri, an Ediacaran cnidarian that presents phylogenetic relationships with conulariids. One of the articles, published in 2015 (Insights into the skeletonization, lifestyle, and affinity of the unusual ediacaran fossil Corumbella, Plos One). The second article, submitted, addresses more specifically the phylogenetic relationships of Corumbella among the Cnidaria (Phylogenetic position of the Ediacaran paleoscyphozoan fossil Corumbella, Corumbá Group, Brazil, among cnidarians). Finally, the main conclusions and the future perspectives on the researches with fossil cnidarians, besides other important new fossil occurrences in Corumbá Group are presented.
