Effect of irrigation on the red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) growth and yield under greenhouse and field conditions
Abstract in English
This present study intended to ascertain the effects of different water levels, applied as dripping, on red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) under greenhouse, covered with a polyethylene sheet, and field conditions. The cultivar used was the “Agronômico 10G”. A randomized design was used, with four treatments and eight replications. Each respective treatment was irrigated when 10, 30, 50 and 70% of the water available in the soil had been consumed. Irrigation control was based on Class A tank evaporation. The red pepper culture response to irrigation was better under field conditions. The treatment which was irrigated when 30% of the available water had been consumed was superior to the other levels, in both culture conditions, as regards to yield increase, fruit quality and vegetative growth. The soil humidity variation, in the available water range, evidences the importance of irrigation for the red pepper culture.
