A mudança climática se tornou alvo de preocupação de parte da população mundial em função da ocorrência nos últimos anos de vários eventos climáticos extremos. A somar-se ao desafio de lidar com as consequências desse aumento de temperatura, protegendo populações dos futuros longos períodos de estiagem, tempestades, enchentes, temperaturas muito altas ou muito baixas, existe o desafio de fazê-lo em cidades que hoje já passam por problemas decorrentes da falta de planejamento ou de desvalorização de um meio ambiente natural. Cidades são áreas naturalmente propícias à ocorrência do fenômeno da Ilhas de Calor em função das suas características construtivas, e a amplitude desses fenômenos é proporcional à dimensão das cidades. Campinas, que na primeira metade do século XX foi referência nacional no quesito Arborização Urbana, em 2015 possuía um déficit de 367 mil árvores segundo censo realizado naquele ano. A arborização urbana é o conjunto de árvores de uma cidade, e insere-se no rol de bens comuns da sociedade, pertinentes ao meio ambiente e à qualidade de vida, trazendo bem-estar físico, psicológico e segurança ambiental à população. Essa pesquisa realizou, em dois bairros da cidade, os procedimentos iniciais necessários à gestão da arborização urbana de forma a fornecer à administração pública e à comunidade local diretrizes para obter o máximo aproveitamento dos serviços ambientais prestados pela arborização urbana. Para isso, foram realizados no bairro Jardim Eulina e no Loteamento Vila Esperança: a.) inventário e censo da arborização viária, b.) pesquisa de percepção sobre os serviços ambientais prestados, c.) verificação sobre relações entre a percepção dos serviços ambientais a respectiva característica da arborização dos locais em que a população entrevistada reside, d.) relacionando também características como gênero, idade, condição socioeconômica, e escolaridade. Além disso, pretende-se verificar a aplicabilidade do Guia de Arborização de Campinas GAUC já que, em comunidades de baixa renda as dimensões de grande parte das calçadas é inferior que o mínimo indicado pelo GAUC para a implementação de arborização viária

Climate change has become a target of concern for part of the world's population due to the occurrence of several extreme weather events in recent years. In addition to the challenge of dealing with the consequences of this increase in temperature, protecting populations from future long periods of drought, storms, floods, very high or very low temperatures, there is the challenge of doing so in cities that today are already experiencing problems arising from lack of planning or devaluation of a natural environment. Cities are areas naturally prone to the occurrence of the Heat Island phenomenon due to their construction characteristics, and the extent of these phenomena is proportional to the size of the cities. Campinas, which in the first half of the 20th century was a national reference in terms of Urban Afforestation, in 2015 had a deficit of 367 thousand trees according to a census carried out that year. Urban afforestation is the set of trees in a city, and is included in the list of common goods of society, pertinent to the environment and quality of life, bringing physical, psychological well-being and environmental safety to the population. There is a set of initial procedures necessary for the management of urban afforestation in order to obtain maximum use of the environmental services provided by urban afforestation, of which this research carried out, in the Jardim Eulina neighborhood and in the Vila Esperança subdivision: a.) inventory and census of road afforestation, b.) survey of perception about the environmental services provided, c.) verification of relationships between the perception of environmental services and the respective characteristic of afforestation in the places where the interviewed population resides, d.) also relating characteristics such as gender, age, socioeconomic status, and education. It was verified that, according to the guidelines contained in the Campinas Tree Planting Guide GAUC 88% of the sidewalks inventoried are classified as narrow, and should only receive small trees. This result demonstrates the need to review and update the guide so that it can meet the current and future demands of citizens
